Looking for help in planning a Disney World vacation. I have a 6-yr.-old and a 2-yr.old?

I stayed at the all star movies resort and it was reasonable priced and nice. Nothing fancy,I would definitely recommend these resorts for families who do not want to spend a lot of money, I would stay there again. I like movies the best because it has huge figures, like a huge Buzz and Woody from Toy Story, it was awesome.
As for getting around they have buses in front of the hotel that will transport you to any Disney park, as well as the downtown Disney. When you get to the parks there are more other ways of transport if you want to venture to see different hotels, like the monorail and boats. If you stay in Disney and just go to the parks you really don’t need any transportation but what they provide. If you want to go out of Disney then you should rent a car, but I can’t help there I drove to Florida.
    Hope this helps a little.

If you stay in Kissimmee you will find it to be less expensive, check out the motels chains you like on the internet and you can find their prices. Car rentals in Orlando are all fairly easy again check out their web sites for more information. Nearly ALL motels and hotels offer transportation to the Park and that is much less expensive than driving and parking. However if you drive you can go back to your motel for a rest in the afternoon and come back at night for more fun in the Park and your children will enjoy the lighted parade and light show. Sign up for the luncheons before you go, on the Disney World site. Also your AAA travel agent can sell you tickets before you leave at a discounted price if you are a member, it might pay to become a member just for that benefit and the travel guides you can get from them.
Also, when you enter the park go LEFT you will not have nearly the crowds you have if you go right.

I would stay on site. The Disney transportation and constant “theming” really makes the vacation effective.

I would recommend the Value resorts, Pop Century and All Star Movies. The theming is nice and the cost savings will allow you to do other special events.

I’ve rented from Avis at Orlando and it was very convenient. Disney does offer a free “Magical Express” transportation service from the airport if you book a vacation with them.

For a 6 and 2 year old I think the regular Character meals are best. Cinderella’s Royal Table is the best Princess experience with a meal. Reservations go quickly and start 180 days out, so they are booking for Feb 3rd already.

Stay on site and use the Disney Buses, especially to the Magic Kingdom. The buses go right up to the front and no other method is that close. For Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney Studios, driving yourself can save some time but the buses are awful easy.

If you are looking for the best deal and most fun, I would say stay in any of the value resorts….All stars Movies, Music and SPorts or Pop Century Resorts.

By staying on disney property, you gain extra hours each day at the parks (mornings and evening to make everyone smile). You can buy park tickets-they can be one day per park, park hopper or park hopper with the water parks added. since you have a 2 year old you won’t need to purchase a ticked for that child.

If you stay on Dis property, you can take advantage of their Magical Express transportation that will pick you and your luggage up at the air port then take you to the hotel. About every 20 min there is a bus that will you pick you up from the disney resort you choose and take you to the park of your choice or from park to park. This is great, bc you do NOT need to rent a car-which means more money for your pocket!

Disney itself is a special experience for all kids! But there is a special dining option you can add to you tickets for staying on Disney property. YOu will get a table service meal (sit down restaurant style) a counter service meal ( fast food meal) and also a snack per day!! This will allow you to go and eat at all the disney places-YES that includes breakfast, lunch or dinner with the princesses, eat at chef mickeys with the mouse himself or wtih pooh and friends-just to name a few!!

check out this message board for other questions you might have!
is also a good source of info.

    good luck!!

I would definitely reccomend staying at one of the Disney resorts. Especially a resort that is at the park. It simplifies a lot of things, you get special perks, AND it is a really fun experience.

If you are planning on eating in the park, definitely have atleast one dinner reservation, as things fill up quickly. If you are going to Epcot, I would reccomend eating in Mexico. It is a little bit pricier, but what can you expect? It has a beautiful design, making it seem like you are along the Mexican Riviera. There is also a cute, line-free ride in the restuarant that the kids will love. My 2 and 5 year old cousins went on it 4 times, and they still wanted more.

Also, account for the hot weather. Sunscreen is a must. Get a small, collapsible cooler and have water bottles, it is SUCH a money saver. Also, go to Walmart or something and get those little five-dollar ****** bottle/fans. A lot better compared to seventeen-dollars in the park.

I would reccomend seeing some of the shows, it is a good way to cool down, and the kids will love them, especially Nemo and Little Mermaid.

And, my fianl, exclusive tip. If you have a girly-girl, this is THE highlight of the trip to Magic Kingdom. On Main Street, by the Emporium, there is a small barber shop that is somewhat hidden. Go in there and you can get a ‘princess-do’, where they puts the girls hair up, put sparkles and glitter in it, and dostreaks of color. My 2 year old cousin absolutely adored it. The best part? It is just five-dollars! You can also get ‘pixie-dust’, where the sprinkle sparkles into your hair, for FREE.

A lot of the above answers have good advice. I would recommend staying on Disney property. We recently stayed at the Pop Century resort and it was a lot of fun! Then you don’t need to work about transportation and renting a car. Character meals are always good- even at 21 years old I still enjoy them! One thing that I didn’t see anyone mention is the princess makeover in downtown Disney. I believe you have to be 3 years old or older and they offer a few different packages. But the girls get their hair and make up done like a princess and if you get the more expensive package they get to pick out one of the disney princess outfits. My older sister and I even wanted to do it last time we went- although we are a little bit too old!! Enjoy your vacation!

Here is the link with more information about the princess makeovers:

look. if you plan rent a car i reccomend you to stay in the NIckelodeon Hotel for the age of kids. they will enjoy it. if you have a rent car is about five minutes for the disney’s territory entrance. check this page for second time you will like it. i reccomend you also to buy the official guide of disney. if so useful and its cheap. about 15 dollars maximium. that is the link: also you can buy it at Borders Store or something like that.

Disney can be overwhelming without proper planning. Here are a few ideas to help lighten the load!

    1. Order a a vacation video from disney.com. The kids love seeing a package from Disney World. It is fun to get excited as a family and start the countdown to vacation.

    2. buy a Disney travel guide at an area bookstore. we have always used birbaums (sp) guide. They do have a general version and a family version. Both are good. You may want to look at the Disney For Kids By Kids as well.

    3. Look online at mousesavers.com and allears.com for Disney discounts. Both sites offer great information.

I strongly suggest reading and planning ahead. Meal reservations can be made well in advance of your trip. Look at the Disney meal plan. We found it to be a great bargain. All of the value and moderate resorts have been great for our family.

There are some great answers here. I agree with those that stay on-site. WDW has a lot to offer and the benefits with staying on Disney Property is worth it and the price will be comparable to off site places but more convenient. You dont need to rent a car at the airport, use Magical Express to get to Disney and back to the airport, use the Disney busses to get to and from the parks. If you need a car to leave the property you can rent one at WDW. Try character dining they are a lot of fun, Magic Kingdom will be where you spend most of your time with the little ones.

try the dsiney economy hotels…I’ve stayed in two of the econo motels they are pretty good. That way you get the shuttle from the airport to the hotel and oce at the hotel you get ground transportation all over disney world…it’s much easier than driving every day and parking..much easier and fairly inexpensive too. If u can swing the price stay at the contemporary…it has monorail service, that is way cool, but $$$, the disney econo hotels are okay though…nice pool, buffet, etc. p.s. at checkin they will direct you to setup dining and character reservations….another advantage of staying on property.

    HOTEL:
i always stay at deluxe hotels, but i stayed at the port orleans french quarter last time, and liked it way more than the deluxe hotels! the pool is amazing, i spent like 4 hours in it one day…it is a sea serpent, and the pool is huge. they also have a kiddie pool. only stay at the french quarter though, the riverside which makes up the other half of this hotel is very overcrowded and is times the size of the french quarter. the fench quarter is much easier to navigate and there is only one bus stop, as the riverside has 4 and it takes forever to actually get on a bus. you will love the overall feeling of this resort too, it is mardi-gras themed, and this past year when i went it was mardi gras, and they had this mini parade throughout the hotel (all the buildings are outside) and they threw candy and beads at all the kids. stay in buildings 2 or 5 though also if you want to be close to the action, like the bus stops and pool area. they also have a live jazz group every night, and they have madi grads floats all over the place. as i said earlier, all the hotels are in separate buildigs, and each is 3 stories. i stayed on the 1st story and i could walk right into the room, no elevators needed! the room doors arer also right outside, so you don’t even need to walk through any doors. connecting all the buildings are stone streets that have elegant gardens around them and lightposts and wrought iron fencing. each “street” has creative names like roud’ a baga. you will really like it there, i promise…you have to stay there and its location is great for its price…not majorly long bus trips for you! you can also take a horse drawn carriage throughout the hotel and even a bost to downtown disney! have fun there!

    CAR ISSUE:
don’t take disney’s magical express no matter how good make it sound. it is really bad. you could be the 1st person on the bus and 99% of the time you will be the last one off. we always have a driver come pick us up in our private town car and we make a stop at a grocery store and pik up some food and it is really nice.never take mears or a shuttle to your hotel like that either…it has the same problem that the magical express has, but you at least will have your luggage wth you…on the magical express they lose luggage all the time, so reaserch before going with anybody.

    FOOD:
i would really reccomend the sci-fi cafe in MGM. you sit in cars and in a movie theather, just like a drive in! you can even get pulled over (pretend of course) and they give kids light up ice cubes and play movies the whole time. also ohana at the polynesian is family style with some great food and alot of activities for kids, like huls lessons and a parade throughout the restraunt. this restraunt also has amazing view of the magic kingdom and the 7 sea lagoon. make reservations too in advance because alot of these are really popular (especially the princess meals in the catle) and you cannot get into them sometimes at all!

    TRANSPORTATION:
when staying on-site (i think you should and will stay at the french quarter…)disney has transportation for you. for example if you were to stay at the french quarter (which you must…) there is a covered bus area there for you to use and it transports you to magic kingdom, epcot,MGM, animal kingdom, blizzard beach, typhoon lagoon, dowtown disney/pleasure island, and some other seasonal locations. you cannot go from hotel to hotel unless you are at the contemporary(i love it there), the polynesian, or the grand floridian by monorail. you can go from hotel, to a park and all parks have acess to all hotels on site, so you can visit and go swimming at other hotels if you wish.

ok, im done now and i know its alot but if you want to email me at you can if you have any other questions…and i know that you are going to stay at the french quarter now…you will love disney, and i can’t wait when i go bac again next februrary!! have fun (which i know you will)!!

    Hotels:
I would definitely recomend staying on the Disney property. I personally stayed at the All-Star Movies property and was quite happy with it.

    Car rentals:
If you stay on Disney property, there is a shuttle that can take you to all the Disney parks (and to Downtown Disney). They even have a shuttle from the Orlando airport to your Disney hotel. (One note is that if you’re staying at the All-Star Movies, they are the last hotel to be picked up / dropped off.)

Special Experiences: If you stay at a Disney hotel, they have a Disney Dinning Plan which is an amazing value. (You’re able to book character meals on that plan, and instead of paying $50+ per person, you pay a certain amount each day (and the Dinning Plan includes per person per day: A “counter service meal”–basically, anything fast food–A “full service meal”–waiter or waitress served, also includes character meals–and a snack.).

For character meals, I highly recomend the dinner buffet at 1900 Park Fare (it’s located at Disney’s Grand Floridian). For the dinner buffet, they had Cinderella, Prince Charming, Snow White (because the Fairy Godmother couldn’t come) and the mice. Also, I loved the way they celebrated birthdays. They give the birthday girl a happy birthday crown, a special cupcake with a candle in it, and special place mats signed by the Mad Hatter, Cinderella, Prince Charming, etc.

If your kids are more into Pooh Bear and friends, I suggest the buffet at the Crystal Palace (located in Magic Kingdom). There, your kids will meet (and get to dance with) Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Pigglet.

I also recomend the princess meal at Aker Shus (located in the Norway pavilion in EPCOT). That’s the best way to find most of the Disney princesses, but please note that the service is hit or miss.

Also, for a suggestion of rides your kids might enjoy, park information, when the least crowded time to visit the parks, etc., I highly suggest “The Unofficial Guide to Disney”.

Hope you have a magical vacation!!

My best advice for meals is to get a rough itinerary together and start making reservations for character meals and shows.
Cinderella Table needs to be reserved 180 days prior to your visit
Sci Fi at MGM is cool – needs reservations
Contemporary – Chef Mickey is a good character event

    Reservations: 407 – WDW – DINE
I also recommend the dining plan, I know the math works with teens, I am not sure with younger children.

If you can stay on WDW property – Pop Century is a value resort but you receive all of the benefits – Disney will pick you up from the airport for free and they provide a bus, boat and monorail system to get all around the WDW property.
To arrange for Disney Express you must do so 30 days in advance.
Have fun planning – You will have a blast.

Decide what is most important and plan extra time into your plans – enjoy your visit do not rush. You will have an aweful time if so.
Soak in all the Disney Bliss and enjoy where you are while you are there.

Everyone has their own opinions, so I’ll share mine based on experience. Here goes, including some Disney pages to each…

    —————————-

    Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
The All-Star Movies Resort only opened in 1999, making it one of the newest hotels within Walt Disney World, and it is definitely a great place for families to stay. Everywhere you look throughout the hotel you will see giant sized versions of all your favourite Disney movie characters, and the attention to detail is such that the wall paper and even the bed linen follow the same theme, with plenty of characters and scenes to spot everywhere.
Because of the friendly looking statues throughout this resort hotel, and the closeness to the main areas of the park, it is particularly recommended for younger families.
The rooms are standard sized, and will fit two adults and two children. Service levels are good, and the staff will look after you really well during your stay.
    Top Tips
Play a game with the kids to spot all the characters first
Book your stay early to get the lowest prices, and check online for discounts
Remember that you can get into the park early, so be up at the ***** of dawn to get to the front of the line.

    Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
The All-Star Music Resort opened a year after the neighboring All Star Sports Resort, and shares its laid back attitude, and heavily themed guest areas – especially the exterior of the hotel, which has huge guitars, saxophones and cowboy boots decorating it. The guitar shaped swimming pool is pure rock and roll, and there is a different show on at the hotel bar every evening including jazz and country music nights.
Rates tend to be quite low in comparison to other Disney Hotels, but you will find that the hotel books up fairly fast over school holidays, and other peak times.

Rooms are generally spacious and well equipped, and offer plenty of room to relax in the evening. They come with a television that features a range of premium channels including Disney TV, which shows cartoons and movies throughout the day, which is ideal for keeping the kids entertained if the weather is bad.
    Top Tips
Book early – or you’ll miss out on this hotel
Take advantage of the in room pizza delivery service for a night with the kids
Spend at least one evening in the bar listening to the band, or get on stage yourself for Karaoke

When it comes to Vacation planning to Disney World, there are definitely lots of choices you can go by. Depending on your budget, I would recommend staying at one of Disney’s Resorts. They are a little bit more pricey than staying at an off-site hotel but they offer a truly memorable experience, plus staying on-site offers you a little bit more perks.
Disney has its value resorts and also Moderate Resorts. Again, depending on your budget, I would go with a Moderate Resort. The Best Car Rental Agencies I’ve dealt with have been Alamo and Dollar. Dollar seems to be the cheapest at times, and they both offer a quick pick-up and drop-off as well.
I definitely recommend you visit all the Disney Parks, and depending on what time of the year you are planning on coming, its definitely worth it to also visit the Water Parks. If you have the time, I also recommend visiting non-Disney parks, such as Sea World (great for kids!) and also Universal Orlando.
As far as transportation to the parks, if you stay within Disney property, you will be provided with free Shuttle Transportation to the theme parks, but if you decide to use your rente vehicle, staying at a Disney Hotel will give you free parking!
If you are interested, we are a Tour Operator here in the area, we actually offer Vacation Packages, Hotel Accommodations, Tickets, Transportation and much more. You are welcome to visit us at for more information, or you may also write us at
Good Luck and hope that you have a great time here in Florida!
